Natasha Richardson died a tragic death, and the decision to take her off life support was made by her husband.
When actress Natasha Richardson had a skiing accident, she had no idea it would cost her life. She was only 45 when her life was extinguished.
The actress was skiing with an instructor when she fell and hit her head on a beginner slope known as Nansen, a trail popular for its gentle slopes and curves.
Moments before her death
Although Natasha initially refused care and treatment, she later began to show signs that her condition was deteriorating. Several hours later, the actress was evacuated to a hospital in Montreal, where her husband Liam Neeson joined her, leaving the set in Toronto to be by her side.
When he arrived there, her doctor showed him an X-ray of her injury, which Neeson described as the brain “being squeezed against the side of the skull.” The actor then went to see his wife and bid her a tearful farewell.
“They told me the brain was dead. And when I saw this X-ray, I was shocked.”
“I went in and I told her I loved her. I said, ‘Sweetie, you’re not coming back from this. You banged your head.'”
Liam was forced to make the toughest decision of his life – the one that would irreversibly change his life. He agreed to disconnect his beloved wife from life support. Unfortunately, Natasha Richardson (45) died two days after the incident.
After Natasha’s death, Liam decided to keep his grief private and away from the media. Thus, years after the accident, he did not talk about the circumstances, nor did he make statements to the media. In 2016, the actor paid tribute to his wife by writing, “They say the hardest thing in the world is to lose someone you love. My wife died unexpectedly. She brought me so much joy. She was my everything.”
The actor is now very close to his mother-in-law Vanessa Redgrave.
Recently, the famous British actress, who worked in theater, film, and television, turned 86. After the loss of her daughter, she still maintains a beautiful relationship with Neeson – they only have good things to say about each other. Neeson always speaks of her talent and dedication to acting, and she openly praises his warmth, saying he is a decent person.
His mother-in-law helps him balance work and fatherhood.
This Oscar-winning actress takes care of Neeson’s real family while he is away, saving his beloved on-screen characters from the bad guys.
