Prince Harry wants to know who is responsible for the reduction of his police protection while staying in the UK, according to court documents that show he lost the dispute against the British government over the decision to change his personal security level during visits to his homeland.
The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, potentially faces hefty bills to cover private costs of tax liabilities after the judge said there was no evidence that the reduced security was unlawful. Harry sued the Home Office because it no longer provides him with the same level of protection after he and his wife Meghan Markle stepped down from royal duties and left the UK in January 2020.
In yesterday’s 52-page court ruling, he requested to know who made that decision, stating: “I want to know the names of those individuals.”
He compared the danger faced by him and his family to the risks his mother, Princess Diana, faced before she died in a car accident in 1997 in Paris while being pursued by paparazzi photographers. The Duke said his family was put in that position, and no one wanted his mother Diana in that situation 23 years ago.
He said there are additional layers of racism and extremism and demanded someone to take responsibility for what could happen to him, his wife Meghan Markle, and their children Archie and Lilibet.
The documents also mention what he considers a threat to his family, but that has not been disclosed. An American private security expert working with Harry said he felt threatened since 2021.
Prince Harry plans to appeal the High Court’s decision in London.
